History
The MP3 Player project was first born in the last half of 2000. I had a desire to have the ability to play MP3s in my room without the need for a traditional computer, and since the iPod had yet to come to market I didn’t have that option.
My original HI-FI MP3 Player was built over many months using spare PC hardware, an old VCR case, an LCD screen and running Linux with software called Embedded Linux MP3 Player (ELMP).
After conquering the original project I decided to improve it so at the start of 2002 I began to design and develop my second generation HI-FI MP3 player, the Aural Decipher.
For the second generation project there were many areas that I wanted to address. A few issues were fan noise, aesthetics and refinement. To achieve this I used low powered PC hardware and I custom built the case using aluminium.
The second project took roughly 10 months to complete and was conducted entirely at my house (as in no commercial manufacturing was sought).
